Day of Light Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 16, 2022) – The National Photonics Initiative, a broad-based collaborative alliance among industry, academia, and government to raise awareness of optics, photonics and quantum science and technology, today applauded Representatives Joe Morelle (D-NY) and Brian Mast (R-FL), the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus, for introducing a resolution recognizing May 16th as the “National Day of Light”. The resolution is “aimed at raising awareness of the vital role of light in our daily lives and its importance to 21st-century technology and innovation.”

“As leaders of the bipartisan, bicameral Optics and Photonics Caucus, Representatives Morelle and Mast fully understand and appreciate the power of light and the impact of optics and photonics research on our daily lives,” NPI Chair Ed White said. “This important area of research and development has sustained tremendous innovation in the health, defense, intelligence, computing, and communications fields – to name a few. The optics and photonics community applauds Representatives Morelle and Mast for their joint efforts to expand awareness about these important technologies
